Step-By-Step Process for Sponsorship:
Form I-134 is used when a U.S. citizen or green card holder agrees to become a financial sponsor under the United for Ukrainian program. In effect, instead of the applicant having to prove they have enough money for their stay in the United States, the sponsor steps in and says that they will be the applicant’s financial support if needed. This is a legal contract between you and the U.S. government.
The sponsor then fills out Form I-134, provides proof of their ability to support the applicant, and signs the legally-binding document. Formally, this document is an “affidavit of support,” and is a legal promise for them to support the applicant during their time in the United States.
Step-by-step process of how sponsors can apply:
- Create an account on the USCIS website.
- Fill out an I-134 form.
- The sponsor will then go through a government vetting process “to protect against exploitation and abuse” of the migrants, according to the instructions on the web portal. Officials reviewing the application may also ask the sponsor for additional supporting evidence or an interview before approval.
- If approved, the sponsor will be notified in writing.
- If you have issues with the form, you can contact our team or read this document with Tips and Tricks on filling out the form.

I understand the process and I am ready for the next step.
